With social media having such an incredibly strong foothold and print media stepping back a bit, you may wonder what is in the future for journalism. In the future, how will social media connect with journalism?

Social media has tremendously changed the way that journalists do their jobs. In order for journalists to be successful nowadays, they must be heavily involved with social media. They need to be tweeting, updating their various social media profiles and blogging. If they are not doing that, other journalists will be involved with social media and they will have a serious advantage over them.

Parents Can Fight Summer Learning Loss On Twitter

Did you know that summer break produces an average of one month learning loss in average children? It’s even more pronounced in lower income families. That’s according to a study by Harris Cooper, a psychology professor at Duke University, formerly of the University of Missouri where his research took place. Parents today juggle a thousand things and while summer has to be chock full of activities for their kids, often times learning is forgotten. If the school isn’t doing it, then the parents sure don’t have time, right?

If you build it, they will, well, probably go somewhere else.

Your target audience probably doesn’t share the same level of enthusiasm that you have toward your new website/redesign/mobile app/digital venture. More than likely, they won’t even notice. They’ll go about visiting their normal destinations online; checking Facebook, maybe Twitter, and dipping into their pool of RSS subscriptions.

But your target audience almost definitely won’t just come to your website because it happens to be there.

Launching your endeavor is a big first step. But it’s just the beginning of a long, long marathon.

Here are some things you can do to make sure more than tumbleweeds check out your new online offering.

You’ll have to forgive Facebook if they woke up this morning thinking the sky was falling; if they were subject to the same avalanche of news, comments and questions about Google+ as the rest of us were these last 24 hours it’ll seem like they’ve already been condemned to the social media scrapheap. And in case Facebook needed any reminder how quickly social networking pioneers can fall, Google+ was launched on the same day MySpace, once supposedly valued at $12 billion, was sold for just $35 million to an ad network.

Google Plus invite like a “diamond,” proves Facebook and Skype hate growing?

Google now facing “overcapacity,” halted more Google+ invites.

Looks like Google+ is quickly becoming one of the hottest properties of the search engine giant.

According to a recent post by Google’s Senior Vice-President of Social Vic Gundotra, the company is currently facing an “insane demand” of customers wanting to have their very own Google Plus account. Apparently, early adopters of Google+ reveal that the new Google service is a powerful piece of art, but getting some lagginess, maybe due to the exceeded capacity.

Social media, QR codes hottest trends in marketing

Social media is becoming just as popular as email when it comes to direct marketing, and that’s not nearly all a recent study uncovered.

While email is still considered more cost-effective and easy to use, more marketers are migrating to social media in response to competitive trends and to reach new prospects, according to an April 2011 study by Pitney Bowes.

The study also gauged social media’s popularity in comparison to several other well-known marketing channels. It found that while social media is now more popular than direct mail and advertising, most marketers still don’t have faith in social networking’s ability to deliver consistent ROI.

What is social media marketing?

Social media marketing is the practice of using social media networks and user-generated content platforms to promote a business, product or service. Social media marketing typically involves participating in conversations with a key audience instead of blatantly throwing out a sales pitch to a large number of people.

Social media marketing also includes creating and promoting content that is meant to be shared by users. The viral and personal nature of social media makes it an effective channel for product advertising, reputation management or corporate branding.

Introduction

Aside from private, “invitation only” virtual events, most other virtual events can benefit from the integration of social media channels. Integrating social media is a win/win because it increases and augments the degree of engagement within the event. And, it enables your attendees to promote the event on your behalf. Awareness extends to your attendees’ friends and followers. A few retweets and likes later, and the visibility of your event can increase to “near viral” proportions. Social media integration should not be about slapping up Twitter and Facebook icons throughout the event. In this posting, I outline an approach that aims to give you the best results.

Social networks continue to prove their worth as a marketing channel

Social media marketing has been top of mind among marketers and is becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Earlier this year, eMarketer estimated that worldwide social network ad revenues alone, not including money that companies spend developing presences on social networks or hiring staff to manage them, would reach $5.97 billion in 2011, a 71.6% increase over 2010.

Tip 1: Build an Identity

Social media is a great way to brand oneself. Is your company less serious and more fun-loving? This could come across in colloquial speech and joke-y tweets. Your personality on the web is a reflection of your business’ personality. Let it shine through!

For a long time there has been a deserved suspicion about the dulling affect that over-consumption of entertainment media can have on mental skills. Television addicts can become mind numbed couch potatoes, etc. and never again have an original thought. Similar concern arose from teachers and parents of children who seemed addicted to hand-held gaming devices. So in turn one might judge too quickly that the tsunamic spread of social media across the face of social culture will quickly dull overall social awareness and weaken social skills to the admittedly shallow levels one typical reads in social media posts.
